And the winner is…
Jan 7th, 2008 by Derrick Fung
Sorry for the delay in announcing the winner. I know I originally said January 5th, but because of snowboarding, I had a few things to do today before I could get on the computer. Here are the results of the Violin and Guitar contests.
Violin Sheet Music Giveaway:
- 61 entries
- The winner is: Entry #10, Keri
- “The Violin is not only a beautiful instrument but is a family pastime for me. My grandpa played the violin and I was never able to meet him. He died at an early age but quickly became a master of the violin at his time. My Great Uncle as well plays the violin. When i hear him play i can only hope that one day i will be able to play as beautifully as he. I love the violin because it has more than just a musical value to me. The Violin is different than all other instruments. It has a sweet tune that is easy to get caught up into. I find that when i play I am intertwined in another world, in the music, perhaps a comfort zone where everything is okay. This instrument i have played for almost ten years and i learn to love it more and more each time I play it. I can only hope that more people all over the world enjoy my passion, for the violin so dear deserves to be passed on and enjoyed.”
Guitar Sheet Music Giveaway:
- 53 entries
- The winner is: Entry #52, Joon Park
- “The guitar for me is the best instrument because of many reasons. First off, it allows me to be creative by fingering in my own unique way or trying to make up chords.
Secondly, there’s so much you can do with that one instrument. You can use chords or just finger. You can also finger with one finger and tap on the wooden part to add a nice percussion twist to it. And the strings are also awesome because you can choke them, you can slide across the fret board to make a sweet sound, and you can also slap the strings to produce sound.
Thirdly, its a simple instrument. You can carry it anywhere, you can bust it out at convenience to sing some folk songs or worship songs whether it be the beach or in your own house. It’s also one of the easier instruments to learn without the hassle of the notes such as piano. It provides the delicate sounds without the complexity of some other instruments.
Fourthly, guitar is not an instrument, its an extension of yourself. Although you can say that about any instrument, but for me this is my way to channel out stress or the express my love for God.
And lastly, i love the guitar because everyone loves the guitar, so you’re never embarrassed to bust it our and sing a tune. It gives you a sense of accomplishment and makes you feel just jubilant when you play.”
Congrats to all the winners! It took a while to read all the entries, but every single one was meaningful and inspiring. However, I thought that these two entries stood out a little bit more than the others. Don’t worry though - stay tuned, because I’ll be announcing another contest for BOTH the Violin and Guitar…and maybe another intrument as well. It’s a surprise
Keri and Joon, please check your email for the directions to claim the prize.
