Free Sheet Music Giveaway
Jun 29th, 2007 by Derrick Fung
The beginning phase of starting up a blog is always the hardest part. Many readers take time to adjust to a blogger’s writing style or look at the blogger’s credentials before trusting them on their every word. There are two types of power that drive adoption of a blog:
- Referent Power: “Referent power is individual power based on a high level of identification with, admiration of, or respect for the powerholder.” This power developes as a blogger gains more readership because people who read their blog truly identify with them. Whether it’s a blogger’s opnion on his/her favourite restaurant, or their advice on wordly issues, this is the ideal form of power that every blogger whiches to achieve.
- Expert Power: “Expert Power is an individual’s power deriving from the skills or expertise of the person and the organization’s needs for those skills and expertise. Unlike the others, this type of power is usually highly specific and limited to the particular area in which the expert is trained and qualified.” Many readers follow a blog because they truly believe that the blogger has expertise in a certain area. For example, many bloggers who are musicians may prove their credentials by showing that they are certified by a music school to teach and provide advice on anything music related.
So what’s my source of power? I really think bloggers really need to establish a balance between the two types of powers. Yes, being an expert in a certain niche or field is a good thing, but what good is that if your readers don’t believe in your core values and fundamental beliefs?
As a way to stimulate the growth of this blog, I will be running a contest from now till July 31. I will be giving away free sheet music (legitimate copies, bought from the music store) to readers of this website. How do you enter into the contest?
- Leave a comment on this entry regarding your passion for music. Talk about the role music plays in your life, and how you plan on making yourself a better musician.
- Suggestions for sheet music are also accepted. If you would like to see another sheet music compilation as part of the giveaway, leave your feedback.
Good luck! A draw will take place on July 31st. Please make sure you leave your name and a legitimate email so I can contact you. Only one winner will be selected, and he/she will win all the sheet music compliations

Music makes my world go round. I’ve been playing since the early age of 3. I perform on a weekly basis at open-mic sessions. I currently play acoustic guitar and electric guitar. Great site!

My passion for music has grown as I have gotten older. When I was younger I used to play around on my grandmothers piano everytime I went over. Listening to music, dancing and singing filled my heart and I just loved it. Concerts, my parents took me to many every year. BUT! my music career really started when I began the 5th grade. When they told us we could go out for band I immediately chose the Alto Saxophone. It was a dream and I played so great for my first year. After my second year of playing my family moved out of state to Louisiana. When I moved here I now played guitar, drums, piano, alto saxophone, tenor saxophone, soprano saxophone, and the trombone.
Music has lifted my life up to a career that I will have forever. I feel as if music is the reason why I wake up every morning. Music plays the biggest part in my life and I wouldnt trade my talent for anything. In simple terms…music just is my life.
I am now 15 years old and a sophomore in high school. I have already planned to attend LSU and play with the jazz, pep, marching and concert band. I want to go into conducting and a symphony orchestra when I graduate out of college. I am going to make music my life. One day I hope to do recording.
I love the songs you have chosen!! And another song I suggest is Elliot Yamin - Wait for you. Also I love your site!!!!! I agree about the classifying thing you talked about. IT IS SO TRUE!
Thanks!!
Alysha Wollard
Alysha, great to hear about your passion and story. Good luck with your music career. Elliot Yamin’s song is definately a good one - I’m currently looking into adding it on the site. Cheers!
[…] made on some of my blog entries today, and a reader named Alysha made a comment on my entry titled Free Sheet Music Giveaway suggested that I include the song “Wait For You” by Elliot Yamin in my contest. […]
Where do I start to tell you how much of my life music takes up.
When i was 7 i got my first keyboard and started taking lessons.
i really enjoyed getting sheet music and learning how hit songs were constructed. i played every time i got a chance and loved being able to play songs that my friends and family could instantly recognise just from me playing the intro of a song! this led to me writing my own songs when i was 13 and began performing live in talent contests which i found great for confidence building.
i studied music in school and received student of the year for music in my final year.
when i left school, i began working in 3 different music shops that sold pianos, keyboards, guitars etc. but always had a hunger to be performing live.
i played and sang, ‘Don’t Look Back In Anger’, by Oasis with a full band at a christmas keyboard concert in Dublin and it got recorded on video which led to a covers band asking me would i like to play ‘paid’ gigs with them.
Around this time i went to music colleges and wrote alot of songs, and also began playing acoustic guitar to back up my voice.
Since then (10 years later) i have played as a keyboard player in around 8 different cover bands and the one im playing with now is one of the most successful Irish bands around that do weddings, corporate gigs and pub gigs…thankfully i make a decent wage from playing a few gigs a week and have no intention on looking back.
my sonwriting website is www.keithoconnell.com and you can download mp3’s of my songs and see live concert footage aswell.
Wow Keith, sounds like you’ve really been around. Congrats on all the paid gigs! Sounds like a lot of fun:-).
Awesome Keith. Good luck with your music career. Just checked out your site. Looks like you’re doing well for yourself.
For almost my entire life, I have been involved in art one way or another. Since grade 2, I’ve been playing piano on the side. You know how life has its ups and downs. They always come unexpectedly. I find that the piano helps me calm down and let me continue my course in life. I am gaining interest in playing songs, not repertoire in course books. Playing outside the box, and letting your emotions guide you is what music is all about.
In grade 5, my music teacher introduced us to string instruments. Immediately, I knew that the violin was calling my name. I went pretty far that year, going to festivals and concerts. I was proud to play that instrument because I was different. I felt special, winding up the bow, tuning the strings and playing a melody. I was on a confidence high whenever I played.
Grade 6. The special year. The year when you got to choose a wind instrument. The year when you were allowed to be part of the concert band. Again, I was introduced to many instruments, and the only instrument that worked for me was the flute. Little did I know that the flute would take me places in the future. It was also during this year when I played percussion. I felt on top of the world, all thanks to music. Ever since that day, I have not regretted choosing that instrument. Even in high school, music is one of the courses I look forward to because it lets me be free of desks, chairs, and droning teachers. Now that I have finished high school, I am looking forward to playing in community bands, or further developing my skills.
Well, hello!I am just looking for the music sheet of Wait For You by Elliott Yamin.Probably, this song is important for me, so anyone has this music sheet? If you do have, can you send it to me through my e-mail?I just had a preview page of it..Thanks so much for your help, I really need it.
Hello. I’m Jam and I work in camp for disabled children. I play piano since I was little and I usually play paino to the cildren once in a while. Yesterday, two of the kids approached me and requested if I could play Move Along by The All American Rejects and other songs by this band. They told me that Move Along is the theme song of Bionicals (I don’t know the spelling) which is their favorite cartoon. I bought the piece It All Ends Tonight from my local music store, however, they don’t have Move Along. I will really appreciate it fi you coould help find a music sheet for Move Along. It will be great for me and for the kids. Also, If you have other All American Reject Music Sheet, I will also appreciate them hwoever they are not priority. Thanks a lot!

I’ve been in love with music since I was born. I was always around music, and all sorts of different types and genres. I started to sing when I was around 6 years old and I was actually quite good. Haha. Since I was young, I didn’t really buy or know how to purchase music at the time. I would always sneak into my brothers and sisters rooms and look at their music stash and listen to what they had. I was exposed to artists such as Mariah Carey, Stevie Wonder, Donny Hathaway, and Whitney Houston. I loved them all.
As I grew older, my passion for music grew also. I was more aware of my tastes and style of music. And as you know, when you grow, puberty hits you. I was unable to sing as well as I could when I was younger. So I didn’t really sing anymore, but that didn’t stop my from loving music. I was so fascinated with music, that I wanted to learn more about the industry and the people behind the scenes of a song. I began purchasing CD’s and flipping through the CD booklet to figure out who produced which songs and getting a sense of different music styles. I was obsessed with learning more and more about producers and who always made hits and which up and coming producers were going to make an impact in the music business.
To this day, my passion for music is at an all time high. I cannot live without it. Everyone, and I mean everyone from family, to friends, to siblings friends, everyone comes to me for music. My personal preference of music is R&B. But I love all genres from Country, Hip-Hop, Classical, Alternative, Pop, Blues, Soul, Funk, etc… I think thats another important thing is that you have to love and embrace all genres of music to really love music.
My fascination for music production has lead me to pursue in the career of music production and audio recording. I’m learning how to play the piano right now, and its an amazing feeling to learn this new skill. The music industry is a tough world to crack into. But I’m determined to do my best because I love it. Music is not just a hobby or a “thing” for me, its a passion.

I don’t have much to say about this contest, seeing that I will probably lose, but I do suggest ‘Everytime We Touch’ by Cascada and ‘Grace Kelly’ by Mika.

Music washes away from the soul the dust of everyday life. I stand by that saying. I am a hardcore music fan. I have played the piano since i was three and have won 26 medals to this date for playing. I actually went to all-state twice for piano and not only that voice too. I have taken voice lessons since i was 6 and since then have been in many broadway performances. Shows like Annie Get Your Gun, Phantom of the Opera, Oliver!, Oklahoma, Once upon a Mattress, The Nutcracker, Bye Bye Birdie, are jut some of the shows ive been in. Being classically trained i have developed a huge love for josh groban and all the music he sings.. i havew always loved hearing him sing and enjoy playing his music. Without music life would be a mess, no reason for getting up in the morning.. Everywhere around you i music, the sound of fire trucks, mixed with bird chirping, people talking, cars, the sound of the breeze makes a big beautiful song. With music life is whole, theres a meaning behind everything and a place for empty feelings to run too. Thoughts, memories, stories of love and friendship, decietfulness all get put into a song. Its a way tp tell the world whats going on in your life. And i thank everyone who has supported me… Hopefully music will stay a love in my life as long as i live. I dont know what id do without it.

Music is my life. Plain and simple. My whole family is musical. I have been singing my whole life. I also play french horn, piano and cello but my forte is the french horn. One of my New Years resolutions is to start music lessons for voice and piano (unfortunately I do not own a french horn). My ultimate goal is to get my piano grade 9 and teach children.
Percussion is my hearbeat. Strings are my emotions, and brass are my actions. Music is my oxygen. Every person has a constant soundtrack to their life. Mine is a classical strings piece, with a rock beat behind it. What is yours?

The first song I ever learned to sing was “Wohng Wohng Wohng,” an onomatopoeic children’s rhyme featuring the dedicated lifestyle of Chinese fieldworkers who toil in the spring to reap the benefits of the harvest. From there, my musical career began. Fourteen years of singing, nine years of piano, and seven years of saxophone later, I’m still surprised how much that first song but also music in general have shaped who I have become.
Just like the farmers that planted the seeds of my nursery repertoire, I believe in my ability to work hard and try my best to succeed–something a disciplined musical education has continually helped to bolster. Even though practice isn’t always enjoyable, it’s the only way to improve musically. Similarly, in academics, I always strive to learn the most–by asking questions and studying with the intent to understand. This ambitious attitude doesn’t just apply to scholarly pursuits: it’s a philosophy I see through in all I that I do. To me, it’s not worth participating in anything unless I commit to giving it my all. I believe in living with no regrets, and that means doing everything I can and want while still contributing to each undertaking.
Luckily, I’ve decided to take part in every advanced ensemble offered at Irvine High School, adding up to six music classes each year. I’ve also given back to the department I owe so much to by assuming leadership roles, including Drum Major of the Marching Band and Student Director, Officer, and Section Leader of our top choirs. While I continue to learn as I go, each of these positions–and the efforts it has taken to earn them–has taught me more about working with others than any non-musical experience.
Besides positive work habits and leadership skills, I’ve also acquired lessons through music that I never expected to learn–namely how to enjoy life. Sure, many academically-driven people like myself know very well that in order to ‘harvest’ the rewards of success, they have to make sacrifices along the way. But that doesn’t mean I can’t have fun while working in the fields. If I know I’m going to be out there all spring, I might as well do it while whistling a tune. In fact, I’ve come to accept that though it’s often challenging to balance academic studies with musical activities, it is because of music that I have the motivation to continue burning away at the midnight oil and maintain high marks.
This past year, I’ve also found that making music is possibly the most effective antidepressant deemed both healthy and legal. During personal crises, I turned to music to cope with when my sister attempted suicide and my grandmother’s health problems escalated. Not only has music provided a solitary escape to relieve stress during tense situations, it has also granted me the comfort and guidance of friends and teachers that I met through musical activities. Music is indeed my drug, one that I intend to remain addicted on for the rest of my life.
I’ve only recently begun to realize how much music has expanded my view of the world. Taking choir and band classes hasn’t just allowed me to become acquainted with those of different ethnicities, nationalities, faiths, or lifestyles: it’s supplied me with the opportunities to really get to know and understand them, too. Because making music can transcend to a very personal level, it’s impossible to make good music together without first knowing and trusting one another. When I see people who look, dress, or act differently–people who otherwise wouldn’t even talk to each other–collaborate to create works of art through music, it’s not only beautiful but inspiring; imagine if the people of the world put aside their differences and came together in the same way.
As I continue to redefine how music affects my life, music continues to redefine my life. As an art form that classically praises precision, consistency, and harmony, music has taught me to live above and beyond an amorphous, spontaneous, and often discordant world. After all, even if this harvest I struggle to keep on schedule with ends up being a failed crop, at least I’ll know that I had a good time whistling along the way.

To me music is a good friend of mine: A friend who is always supportive, non-judgmental, and loyal.
It shares my joy and sorrow. It’s a friend I can always turn to when I feel lost and lonely, and always expect to be there for me.
It’s soothing, healing… and emotional. I’m not a professional musician. So to be a better musician, I just practice my instrument(piano and clarinet) whenever possible. More importantly, I try to listen to different kinds of music and try to develop broader appreciation for music.
My son is trying to learn the piano lead-in to a song by Red Jumpsuit Apparatus. How can I get a hold of the sheet music for it?
Thanks for the help.
