My Project Studio
Jul 18th, 2007 by Derrick Fung
As promised, here are some pictures from my little project studio. I’ve invested $3000 into this thing, which isn’t a lot compared to many of the more professional project studios out there. Take a look at some of the pictures, along with the captions. Interested in the quality of the recordings this studio can produce or the type of equipment I own? Visit this post here.
Here’s a look at the setup. I have 2 RP8s by KRK. They serve as my studio monitors. Also, in the middle is my Yamaha AW1600 mixer, along with my Sony studio headphones. The RP8s were $300 CDN each, Mixer was $1300, and headphones were $100. Also on the table is my $2 egg shaker
The mixer has everything you need to record, monitor, and master - it’s even got a CD burner
Here’s a view from the door. As you can see, the studio isn’t that big, but does the trick
A close up view of the mixer. It has 8 inputs for instruments and mics. Seems complicated, but actually very simple to use. It’s the Yamaha AW1600.
My Fender Acoustasonic Amplifier for my Acoustic guitar.
Here’s my vocal microphone with the pop-filter.
A view from the piano to the door - notice my guitars on the ground. On the left is the bass guitar, and on the right is my Norman acoustic guitar.
Here’s a picture of my setup with my Keyboard. I have a Yamaha DGX500 keyboard, and Mic-ed it with an Apex Condenser Microphone.

Great pics. I am finishing up my new home office and project studio in the basement of my house. I’ll have my Pro Tools setup permanently installed at that point. When I do I’ll post some pictures myself. Great job!

buy me that stuff…
So do you want to buy it for me? :
=P
nice pic’s btw…
Thanks for the comments William. I wish I had the money to buy you a studio
Any tips for a (very!!)low budget studio?
I don’t have much money, but I have a lot of songs
that I’ve made on my piano and my guitar..
But I don’t know to record it without spending a lot of money..
William, I’ll post an article for you sometime soon about that
cool pictures….. thanks for sharing it
hey… is it really better to have a condenser mic over the speaker of the keyboard rather than directly plugging it into the mixer?????
Hey John,
Ideally, it’s best to plug the piano into the mixer. However, my piano doesn’t have an input directly into the mixer as of yet, so I had to mic it. But if you can get it directly into the mixer, that would be best!
