Share Your Vocal Techniques / Sheet Music Batch 10
Jul 25th, 2007 by Derrick Fung
For all you vocalists out there, listen up! I’m genuinely interested in some of the professional vocal techniques out there. I’ve heard of pretty crazy ones, like Chris Martin from Coldplay taking a shower to open up his vocal chords. I’ve also found some interest sites out there which talk about vocal techniques and warm up procedures:
- http://www.livescience.com/health/060417_voice_tips.html
- http://www.humboldt.edu/~jmf2/floss/vocal-warmups.html
I’m interested in knowing what has worked for you, if you sing. So how bout it? Leave a comment regarding a vocal technique or warm-up which has worked for you, and I’ll send you ONE (1) of the following sheet music (specify which one in your comment. Every tip/comment you leave allows you to download 1 more sheet music):
High School Musical - Breaking Free
High School Musical - Start of Something New
Titanic - Rose theme
Mandy Moore - Only Hope
Avril Lavigne - How Does It Feel
Britney Spears - Everytime
Celine Dion - That’s The Way It Is
Rent - Seasons of Love
*NOTE* In order to qualify, your comment must be original and written by you
Sorry, no copy-and-pasting allowed.

Drink tea to warm the vocal cords and then a tablespoon of honey to lock in the moisture and warmth….yes i know it’s weird. Can i have everytime by britney spears please?
Hiiiiiii can I have Avril Lavigne - How Does It Feel please? Thank You
I’ve always been taught that in addition to warm ups you need to do cool downs to help deal with the increased bloodflow while singing. It makes sense though I’ve found most people don’t do this. Can I have Rent - Seasons of Love?
hi
you have makes some silly noise like grrr arr whooh ayh
ang drink warm water and relax. that always works for me …
can i have breaking free n start of something new plzzz
thank you
Its advisable NOT to drink any cool drinks for that actually make your troat vocal contact, making it hard to sing as you are constraining them, resulting in constant sore troat. If that happens TOO often, your vocal might be damaged, resulting into those really..troaty sound which is TERRIBLE.Yups.HAA,now can i request for…High School Musical’s Start Of Something New?Please?HAA.thanks lots!
If you are going to sing any songs that are lower than the Middle C in the piano scales, its better to use your chest tone. You will sound better.HAA.can i request for..High School Musical’s Breaking Free?thanks~!
Lip trilling is a good warmup. It relaxes the muscles in your face.
I was told by my singing teacher that the best warming up technique is doing the scales in the keyboard. And also massage right next to the ears, where you have a little “hole”… that helps to relax all the muscles in your face.
Oh, and I want Only Hope by Mandy Moore.
Thanks!
absolutely no chocolate… or anything of that sort
scales are definitely a good warm up excercise, but only about 10mins is required… taking larger breaths can enable you to sing that extra bit higher/louder/longer and good posture goes a long way…
i think that deserves
Celine Dion - That’s The Way It Is
xD thanks
Make sure to allow for warmup time so that you are relaxed and not rushed. Sometimes light physical exercises will help to calm you down. Also, doing scales with your voice and sustaining each note can help warm up. Or if you don’t feel like doing something so organized, just make random and strange noises to work your vocal cords.
(Anyway, in order of preference, the sheet music I would like is: Mandy Moore- Only Hope, and either/both High School Musical songs..depending on how many I can have.)
well, I know that if your cheek muscles are tense, then you can’t sing really well. so. you must loosen those up. in order to do that, you do scales, while buzzing your lips. while doing the buzzing, you use your hands to massage your cheeks. it’s a funny exercise. but it works!
if that was good, can i get the music sheets for the two high school musical songs?
keep on saying bolm
growl it works trust me
i dont know if youve heard any of this but when singing dont sing threw ur nose sing threw ur throat also dont restrict ur throat open it up and sing with your natrual voice otherwise you probably wont sing very well … o and can i plz have seasons of love
Hey. usually when im warming up i have a warm drink to relax and just practice with previous songs. i usually concentrate on singing with my diaphram and the different ranges and try to expand on that each time.
Could i have the rose theme for titanic?
What I have always been told is no dairy products the day of your performance, it creates extra phlem and it’s not pretty!
The other thing I’ve done is take a shot of Olive Oil…sounds gross, but it works!
Could I have “start of something new” and “only hope”? Thanks!
Actually, the reason Chris Martin of Coldplay takes a shower is because steam is a great tool to use to… open and relax the vocal cords. thats one of the reasons people claim theyre great shower-performers. lol
I do a lot of different things to warm up. Usually I just sing a song that’s in a good key for my voice, or just a song that I really like. You just have to make sure it’s a key that flatters your voice and not strain =].
And I would love you forever if you could send me ‘Start of Something New’ from High School Musical, please? =]]
Oh! And, since I go to a music school, I have to warm up my vocal chords by doing different legoto(smooth) and sticotto(little bursts) exercises, jumping note intervals, et cetra. You should use a piano to help you hit the notes precisely though =]] One thing I do to warm up and relax my lips is: “mommy made my mush my m&ms” going up a scale.=]]
And may you please send me ‘Breaking Free’ from High School Musical? Thanks sooooo much!!
I’m warm up my vocal chord with singing extreme high and down tones. And I’m singing on the piano intervals :). But I’m not in singin very good. In Poland we sing on the piano on one tone “w czasie suszy szosa sucha” higher and higher - try;)
bye!
Pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaaaaaas send me songs from Rent that you have (most important for me is “seasons of love” I have in 6 hours my musical corse and need this and i can’t find this song). I can send you hole Jesus Christ Superstar and Grease and Miss Saigon.
I hope you’ll help me
yay can i have the “only hope by mandy moore” please
Hi ! Could you please send me “Breaking Free” please ? Thank you !
is it free? can you send me the music sheet of breaking free and what i’ve been lookin for of high school musical. thanks
Hot lemonade and singing triplets up a scale
cde def efg fga….ect.
In our country, the best singer goes in the deep part of the beach until
her whole body is submerged except her head. Then she would sing and practice. Oh, and it should be a little cold. Another is practice and sing everyday. Follow the tones in the piano. I would like the music sheet of breaking free of high school musical in piano.
I definitely agree that warm drinks and hot steamy showers help, because ultimately, you’re trying to relax your throat and vocal chords, so that they can be as flexible as possible when you’re singing.
when you’re doing warm up scales or other exercises of the sort, start in the most comfortable range for you, and gradually expand it out, so that you don’t strain anything.
can you send me “only hope”?
thanks!!
wow. this is a cool website. good job in making this
Hi, I am in choir in highschool and i dont know how helpful i can be, but what i like to do is to just start at the C below middle C and just do thirds up then back down…so if you start at C, its C-E-G-E-C. Then go up a half step, and keep going up by half steps and when you start start on like Ah, or Oh, and just change vowel sounds. Keep ascending until its pretty high for you then start going down until where you began and go as low as you can…remember when you sing really low and high to keep ALL the muscles in you neck, jaw and face relaxed. when you sing low you are going to want to tilt your head down, all this does is create tension, so just keep your head up and muscles relaxed…i hope that helps. If so i would really like Seasons of Love from Rent…if it didnt help you then you dont need to worry about it! good luck!!!
-barry-
sorry i didnt mention this but you want to use the piano to do those warmups…..it might be hard without one….haha!!!
-barry-
Well. I suggest warm water or warm anything. dont’ eat or drink sour or spicy before singing, messes me up.
Don’t collapse the breathing muscle! It takes to much energy to keep up the breathing muscle. You breathe in, hold it, and then exhale, then repeat the process to help. Your breathe in, stomach goes out to allow air.
Season of love and only hope please.
It helps me to suck in my stomach a little, and focus on singing with a little breath so that I don’t sound like I am singing through my nose.
Can I please have High School Musical- Breaking Free, thank you =)
Drinking tea and no dairy products, Can I have High School Musical - Breaking Free pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaasssssseee? ty
hello,
i am part of the city choir ad i have always found that warm citrus drinks help a lot. But also singing “how about it” or a difficult phrase to say fast… and then sing it in every octave
can i have only hope please?
thanks
hey there, i have found that if you drink something warm like tea that it helps to sing better. Also after you drink it say some phrases that are tongue twisters. if you could can i have the song only hope?? plz
thx
When we do warm-ups at my school we do the disney warm-up of Minie Minie Minie Minie Minie Minie Minie Minie Mickey Donald Goofy Chip and Dale. It really helps you work on your pronounciation and work on rasing and lowering your voice as you move up and down on the scale as you sing this warm up.
Could I recieve the sheet music for Breaking Free-High School Musical I want to use this song for a try-out.
Drink tea…can i have “Breaking Free” from high school musical
Sing boy boy boy and go higher as you sing it…can i have High School Musical - Start of Something New???
Yawn befire you sing..it’ll help you sing higher… can i have Britney Spears - Everytime???
What I do:
Bend down and breath repeatedly, then when you stand back up keep your shoulders back and sing octaves going up the scale.
Or, every 5 notes sing ” 1,2,3,4,5 … Do Re Mi Fa Sol… Sol La Ti Do Re… 1 3 5 3 1 …
It helps alot to get warmed up.
Avril Lavigne - How Does It Feel
Thanks
I can not exagerate the how much drinking plenty of water helps, especially warm water. Be sure to do plenty of warm ups and warm up to at least a whole step above what’s required in the song. A simple warm up is singing the alphabit going up and down the scale from Do to So so that A is do and E is so, back to do on I and continue that pattern.
Can you please send me Rent - Seasons of love.
Ummm… I was just thinking if you can post “So Much Love” by The Rocket Summer. If you can that’s great, but if tried but couldn’t thanks for trying anyways. Thanks.
this is fun
Hi my name is dennis I found it’s always easier to warm up your voice after drinking a cold glass of water with Lemon or honey. Could you send me only hope by mady more please!
I tihnk that if you practice everyday then your voice will stay in good shape…but to warm up it depends on you and what works for you…..i Usually use the hot drink technique…and then warm up with the notes on the piano…hope it helps!!!
May i have the high school musical - start of somthing new!! please thank you
May I please have Celine Dion - That’s the way it is Please? Please and thank you! Arigatou gozaimous!
can you add more high school musical 2 songs?
Erm not sure really. I’m not a singer so I wouldn’t know…but I’ve heard all sorts of things, gargling and humming a low note but I honestly don’t know what actually works - only myths sorry >
I usually just play something instrumental first to get into a more music-like state, then I sing a song that I’ve sung over and over again, something that I pretty much know off by hard, so that I’ll relax, and feel more confident, and warm up done. I don’t sing professionally though… but yeah. Stuff like drinking warm liquids usually works well as well, but of course if you’re somewhere hot, you gotta stay cool, if not your voice might not work well. But for certain people, sometimes eating oily and crispy things work as well. It works for me, sometimes. XD
I’m pretty sure there’s two of my own warm up stuff there… so can I please have:
High School Musical - Breaking Free
High School Musical - Start of Something New
N if you count the warm liquids n stay cool ones then the ones below as well.
Mandy Moore - Only Hope
Avril Lavigne - How Does It Feel
Thnx
I start by using exercises that exercise my lower register before I even think of trying exercises that reach the higher notes that I can do, but that just might be me, I have a lower voice with a restrictive range, so it’s a lot harder for me to hit those notes without warming up my lower register. Could I please have seasons of love from rent? thanks!
hey i love highschool muscial i love to sing the songs
could i recieve the music to the Start Of Something New from highschool muscial
i usually drink hot tea and honey before sing, and gurgle hot salt water.
High School Musical - Breaking Free
please!
Avoid dairy. Vocal warm ups are crutial. Do a wide variety of them like humming, breathing, range testers etc.
Only Hope-Mandy Moore please?
hi! i like the vocal-warmups but i rather take the 2nd voice tips because the 2nd voice tips they’re giving tips on how you can use your voice in a manner and safer things and they have some vocal warmups/exercise too.
highschool musical - breaking free please?? thanks anyways
We do a lot of things before performances. We say things like:
“My mother makes me mash my mini m&m’s on a monday morning.”
We do that several times, going higher each time. We also do scales and then this thing where we would pretend we were casting a fishing line and as our hand moved we would sing “ah” from the very top of our voices to the bottom.
High School Musical- breaking free please. thanks and i hope this helps =)
In addition to warm-ups and breathing exercises, I use a warm sweet herbal tea my mother makes for me. I’ve been singing for the past 15 years and she still makes it for me and refuses to tell what’s in it! I also have a shot of warm Port just before I go on stage (and every time I’m backstage too!). Could I please have Rent -Seasons of love.
Practicing everyday is definitely a good way to build your voice. When I first started out singing, my range was from Middle C to High C, which is not a very broad range. I have gotten better after 5 years of continuous involvement in my church choir. My range is now from about low A to a High G…that’s pretty hard but I have broken that barrier and I’m starting to break/crack into the high A. I say the thing that helped me is practicing and “using” my voice everyday and choosing “high” pieces to continue to train my voice for a broader range.
If you think this is valid, can you please send me Britney Spears “Everytime”? Thanks.
1. Finding a way to open up your lungs helps. I personally do a little workout (jogging, powerwalking, jump rope etc.)
2. The shower helps to do that as well.
3. Tea (aside from being the best drink in existence) really helps relax muscles and sooth tension so I suggest doing that too.
Could I get the Mandy Moore, Britney Spears and Celine Dion songs? Thanks!
I try to sing something with dynamic contrasts to warm up o it gets your vocal cords moving and your diaphragm working.
Could you e-mail me Rent- Seasons of Love
well i dont really have a singing technique because i never got any singing lessosns or anything but i always wanted lessons but my parents dont want to pay for them. I LOVVEE to sing and my favorite song is Only Hope by Mandy Moore. i know it’s already been said by probably more than one person but I drink cold water i dont know if it makes me sing better but it does sound better to me! can i please have Only Hope by Mandy Moore i really want those vocals!!
****warm water****
Never drink dairy before you sing. It causes phlem and makes it harder to make a clear sound.
As for opening the chords, you should try having a bowl of hot water then a towel and drap it over your head so you breathe in the steam.
Also, try warming up with different types of tones with different warm ups. For example, a darker tone with one warm up and a open tone when warming up higher notes.
Can I have Mandy Moore - Only Hope?
Thanks! Good luck with whatever you’re doing!
Also make it a routine to sing. Doesn’t matter how often (although the more, the better) but make sure whatever you decide to do is consistant.
High School Musical - Breaking Free Please
Hey,
For warm ups when you are sick, start with just humming. Start low and work higher, it loosens up your throat not to mention gets that phlem outta there. Don’t ever clear your through via coughing or the throat clear, it is like shoving razor blades down your throat,
I’d love Seasons of Love - Rent
I have 2 tips for you for 2 songs (Rent Seasons of Love, and Mandy Moore Only Hope)
tip number 1
its all about the posture. proper posture leads to proper air flow and diaphragm support. both of those thing are necessary for singing. Without the right air flow creates the tone and your diaphragm supports it
tip number 2
I was always taught that you should never EVER EVER EVER (from my teacher haha) guess at what note you are going to sing. Its always best to think of the note before it comes out (that way its less of a surprise)
some others just for the heck of it
my choir teacher always preached about water water water its important (why I dont really remember). he also said that when singing lower most people tend to have to much air and then it doesn’t sound as good. the lower you go the less airflow there should be. our choir also had the problem of singing with our mouths practically closed. your mouth should be fairly wide and your never supposed to sing if it hurts to talk
I hope these tips helped.
no dairy, half hhour of warmp ups, and never whisper - that only hurts the vocal chords.
could i have only hope by mandy moore?
Song: Seasons of Love
I’ve been taught to place the fingers of my left hand on the back of my neck, place my corrosponding thumb on my chin, and exhale. This loosens up the muscles so that your voice doesn’t come out tense.
Well I want a few songs so I’ll give a few tips!
Tip 1 One thing I’ve been doing for quite a while is trying to strengthen my singing voice by using my speaking voice. First I say “This is a very nice day” on a note, then I sing it on that note. As you get higher up the scale it sounds like you’re talking in a chipmunk voice but it really helps you to open up and use your natural voice.
Tip 2 Tounge twisters help not only with enunciation but with the placement of your sound. Here’s my personal favourite thing to say and sing. When singing just go up and down the scale, go up/down a note after every line
To sit in solemn silence
in a dull dark dock
in a pestilential prison
with a life long lock
awaiting the sensation
of a short, sharp, shock
on a cheap and chippy chopper
on a big, black, block
Tip 3 When newer singers are trying to sing low, they often let their bodies sink and go lower aswell. They think low. When singing low I think high, I stand up as straight as I can, I even sometimes stretch upwards as I sing. It was something a vocal teacher taught me years ago that just kinda stuck with me. I’ve never acctually heard of anyone else doing the same but it always helped me.
Tip 4 This was already stated but with singing, you sing how you eat. Before performances stay away from dairy, spicy foods, sour foods, etc. Foods that could have some effect on how you sing. Just like in most sports, I eat at least an hour before the performance and then keep hydrated. If I’m sick, my dad makes me the greatest drink ever to clear me up, boil water, add fresh lemon, honey and a shot of vodka. Its our special “Hot lemonade” and even just inhaling the steam clears me right up!
Can I please have:
Mandy Moore - Only Hope
Avril Lavigne - How Does It Feel
Rent - Seasons of love
and if you count my 4th tip then either of the highschool musical songs, or both
The main things to do when warming up:
1. Warm your face up with mouth exercises
2. When you sing scales, make sure you always finish the scale by ending on the lower end, or your voice will be in your high register when you are singing
3. Drink tea not cool drinks
4. No dairy, pop, chocolate, or anything but tea and water
5. LOTS AND LOTS OF WATER
And with the right amount of tone and confidence your gold!
Can I please have Titanic.. thanks!
1.) Starting in the middle of your range, start singing “Ha-ha-ha-ha-ha”, and then as you go higher, change to, “Hee-hee-hee-hee-hee”, “Ho-ho-ho-ho-ho”, and start over again. lmao (Seasons of Love - Rent, please?)
2.) Sing “Ma-ah-ah” at the bottom of your range, then again an octave above, and do it over again, going up a semi-tone each time.
(That’s The Way It Is - Celine Dion, please & thank you?)
Does that work?
xxxx
Yay Vocals.
Btw I would like High School Musical - Start of Something New, please and Thanks!
Techniques: Do rah mi fah so la ti do.= tune my voice with the piano.
Breaking free- Highschool Musical all the way
band!
everytime-britney spears
I dont sing, but may I have Only Hope by Mandy Moore? Thanks
I drink tea (or just hot water!) often, and since steam helps your vocal chords, I once heard that holding a washcloth that has been in hot water over your mouth and breakthing through it helps–I’ve only tried it a couple of times though.
Seasons of Love from RENT, please.
only hope mandy moore-
Rent -seasons of love
Lemon and honey mint tee, or a cheap bag of oily chips to get the pipes going.
only hope mandy moore and seasons of love
NO DAIRY. that’s a biggie.
definitely tea and when you warm up always go a few notes over and under the highest and lowest you’ll be singing that day.
Here’s a great warmup i learned that helps warm up your vocals and diction: (1=do, 2=re, 3=me, 4=fa, 5=so, 6=la, 7=ti, 8=do) - just say the numbers, starting slow and get better at it, getting faster…..
12345, 54321, 15 45 35 25 15 45 321, 15 45 35 25 15 45 678
and i want Seasons of Love please…
I’ve found drinking just a little lemon juice before singing will clear and blockages in your throat
can I have rent- Seasons of Love?
hi, vocal warm ups help me. making awkward sounds, although it is embarrassing, allow me to sing better.
may i have…start of something new? thanks
I usually avoid milk for a while, then just lock myself away and relax. I can’t sing if I’m tense. I have a friend who does headstands, and they help her. To each her own.
May I have Only Hope?
avoid dairy or any other foods that you find make you phlemy.
warm up like sirens and breathing are always helpful. pretty much any exercise that makes you do scales and practice vowels is good.
may i please have mandy moore?
I just came across this site today and saw this post. Hope it isn’t too late to get Rent- Seasons of Love
My best advice to to start slowly… especially if you’re warming up in the morning. Start with just humming. Scales, going up by just a half step each time are probably a good idea. From there, start singing softly gradually getting louder and stretching your range. I saw the suggestion about a spoonful of honey, and I’ve found that it works, but only for a short period of time ideally. It’s a great strategy if you’re right about to go into an audition and need to make sure your voice will hold up. Hope it helps!
Thanks so much!
I always make sure to not have any dairy if I’m going to be singing, because it tends to make my throat clogged. I drink Throat Coat tea, it’s very good and meant for singers/actors/speakers because it soothes the throat.
Can I get Seasons of Love? Thanks.
Hmm i think everyone has already covered most of what I do… like skipping out on dairy and such - but I have also been told that it does not much of an effect if you wait at least a half hour before singing.
? Thanks!
My voice teacher is always bugging me not to clear my throat though… she says doing that rubs your vocal cords together. Instead she makes me stand there and do baby coughs til my throat clears. It’s so frustrating ! Anyway, could I get Seasons of Love please
hi! dave grohl chews gum while singing to keep his saliva going and prevent his mouth from becoming dry. it works as long as the gum does not interfere with the vocals! can you please send me “only hope”? thanks
Hi Can I get HSM - Breaking Free
My Tip is to rest your voice. Dont do any loud yelling or screaming days before a performance and swallow a teaspoon of straight honey before you go to bed every night for a week before
HSM Breaking Free
i basically sing a song many times….or listen to it repeatedly. thats how i learn songs.
and
HSM-Start of something new
scales in thirds–we do that in choir. especially in the morning it helps–i have choir class one.
i do my warm-ups in the shower!!! and try to minimize whispering, caffeine, and dairy.
Like many before me, I also avoid dairy products. I drink warm tea with a bit of honey! Celine Dion- That’s the way it is, please!
Also HSM - Start of something new
Try singing in a place with good acoustics like the bathroom or garage. It will help you get used to the echoness of the stage
well the most important part is making sure your breathing muscles are strong. breath in, hold, breath out. you can also lie down on a flat surface and put a book on your stomach. try to move the book up and down by breathing alone.
rent-seasons of love
I’ve always found that doing sirens REALLY helps. it warms up really well and it hits all the notes you can reach. if i need to do a quick warm-up, i always do at least two sirens. can i have seasons of love from rent please? thank you!!!
Warm honey water is good for the throat.
Rent please!
I’m not sure what everyone else wrote, but this is what I do.
1. Lots of tea!
2. ABSOLUTELY NO DAIRY!
3. sirens are very good to do(when you sing the highest note you can to the lowest note)
4. lip drills warm up the mask
5. work those breathing muscles!
6. singing vowel sounds really open your throat
7. something i like doing is i put three fingers vertically between my teeth and sing scales. this widens your jaw and helps it become more flexible.
8. DON’T BELT UNLESS YOU KNOW HOW TO PROPERLY! unhealthy belting can hurt your voice
i hope this helps!
can i have seasons of love and only hope? please and thank you!
oops! i forgot a big one!
9. do not chew gum! it tightens the jaw
again, could i please have seasons of love and only hope? thank you!
~Allie
One thing my voice teacher has told me to protect your voice when you get sick is to try not to cough, because it can damage your vocal chords. Also, not eating anything heavy especially meat on the day of a performance.
could I have Only Hope- Mandy Moore Thanks!
My tip is as follows. Find a good voice teacher. There are tons of good vocal coaches but even they may not have the true knowledge of how to help you train and protect your voice. I’ve got a B.F.A in voice have worked with over 10 teachers and professors of voice. Only the most recent one has truly known enough about the voice to help me. Mind you this is years after finishing my degree in voice and being a high school choir director. Now it is taking me a fair amount of time to unlearn some habits that were developed with bad teachers. Also, my personal opinion is that you shouldn’t have to add anything more than water to your body in order to sing. Listen to your body. If it hurts to sing or you are having trouble singing as high as you normally do, that probably means your vocal chords need some down time.
well…i hope i’m not saying anything new, but let’s see…although i’ve never had formal voice lessons, ive been singing since i was a little girl in different choirs with the same director, and he’s given me some really good things. whenever we warn up, we do the B whole tone scale, and he taught us some little rhyms (sp.) we use for articulation and tone matching. then he would give each of the sections a specific warn-up, whether it be scales or something else, depending on the range of the section. so what the sopranos might do would be completely different from what the altos, tenors, and bases do. oh…breaking free from high school musical please. thanks
also, i’ve learned that it helps to sing in the car with the radio on the way to a rehearsal or performance. i’ll always find something simple and easy on my vocal chords and just sing along. it really did help me. also, it takes singers so much longer to recover from a cold or a sore throat, but i’ve found that drinking tea (and i mean straight out green tea, not that starbucks stuff) really helps. i think this was a myth or something before, but i tried it, and it helps me recover so much faster. i went from being down for a few months to being down for a few weeks. you also have to remember that time and moderation are key. don’t talk too much and don’t try to recover faster than your vocal chords can manage. start of something new from high school musical please. thanks
I’ve found that humming while walking helps, and of course drinking hot water with honey. May I have Rent seasons of love, please?
well, i’m not all that good with vocals, but one thing i remember from my classes was doing arpeggios for warmups, to get vocal cords used to different ranges.
may i have high school musical - breaking free?
oh and also, breathing exercises help. some like, breathing in for 4 counts, out for 4. then progressing to breathing in 2 counts, out 8. and in 1 count, out 16. helps when there are long phrases in songs and no breaks in between.
so, does this mean i get another one? haha.
if i can, may i have rent - seasons of love? thanks alot.
first you just loosen your lips, vocal cords, and lungs by making buzzing sounds and doing breathing exercises
then scales are best thing to do - regular ones and chromatic ones
and then doing some intervals with a partner are good
could i have Rent - Seasons of Love
the shower thing works.
steam allows your vocal chords to warm up (with temperature) instead of exercising them.
be sure when you sing to lift the soft pallet and allow space in the back of your throat without sucking the sound in.
only hope by Mandy Moore please?
Hi! I usually turn on my ipod speakers while im in the shower and sing along and while im in the shower i drink some hot water which really helps. Then when I’m getting ready in front of the mirror I keep singing along and watch the way my mouth moves to make sure i’m singing right
can i have avril please? thanks!
I drink a cup of hot water with 2 lemon slices and honey to taste. Singing a few scales also helps.
Could I have High School Musical-Breaking Free? Thanks!
I dont eat oranges or anything that too sweet because that creates flem and makes it really hard to sing, plus theres a “glottal attack ”
sometimes that really sucks so none of that stuff
also in choir we do massages on the shoulders and back sorta like relaxing so that your tone is better?
may i please have rent -seasons of love.
thanks
In terms of a actor/singing, it is a wonderful practice to sing your song with physicalization. This means speaking the text, or singing it, while doing things like swinging your arms in figure 8s or marching or skipping or punching, etc either to the rhythm or to each word. It helps you get into the song more and internalize the words, connect it to your body.
Another thing that is great for connecting to your song more (getting it out of your head, into your body) is singing it in different ways. Another thing is to make a movement for each and every word (even filler words like ‘and’ and ’so’) and doing it that way. Also, to speak it as though you’re talking to a 3 year old, then like you’re talking to someone hard of hearing…then fast, and slow. etc.. These different things help vary it so you’re not always saying the song in the same pattern, you realize what it really means.
i’d love rose’s theme and celine dion!
Sing scales, arpeggios, breathing
Sing scales, arpeggios, breathing
All please.
i think that sirens are the best- they test the range and stretch the vocal cords….. i would really like both the high school musical songs and seasons of love if possible, but if only one i want seasons of love
i just realized i can put more comments for more songs… i know that screaming is really bad for vocal cords, so the night before a performance it is good to sit at home and have a quiet evening
breaking free high school musical plz
breathing is good, take a big gulp of air, hold it, sip in a little more, hold it, then let it all out fast and immediately breathe in again, it expands the lungs
start of something new high school musical plz
One thing i was taught was to take a breath for 4 counts, hold it for 4 counts, release for 4 counts, and hold again for 4 counts. it’s to help with breathe control, and helpes expand your lungs.
(if you could, i would very much like the celine dion song “That’s the way it is”)
I go up the scales while blowing air through my lips, and don’t drink/consume anything within 30 minutes of the performance! : )
You should also practice some breathing techniques, such as laying on the floor, and putting a book on your stomach to make sure you’re breathing from your abdomen. (Seasons of Love, & The Start of Something New, please!) : )
When you are sick, or have a sore throat, never use chloroseptic spray or losenges. They numb the pain, allowing you to sing through it and possibly injure your chords. Your body is sending you the message of pain for a reason. If anything hurts while you are singing, relax, message your muscles, and take a break before you continue to sing.
Will you please send me “Only Hope”?
I’ve been taught to keep your throat relaxed and not to lift the top of your chest when you breathe. Instead, use the bottom bones of your ribcage and your diaphragm to breathe. When going up high to down low, or vice versa, make sure your throat feels ‘thin and long’ - basically don’t close when your throat when you move into your chest voice.
Hope thats some good tips!
Can you send me “Only Hope” by Mandy Moore?
Hey, can I get Rent- Seasons of Love?
My typical vocal qarm up is really simple. I start singing the lowest notes I can hit and work my way up. I like to sing a bunch of random scales slowly modulating up to work my upper register. It’s pretty simple, but it works for me.
Drinking warm beverages is good, but I also like to either take a steamy shower or turn on a humidifier. It’s also great to use a piano and hold a lower note and gradually work up to the highest note you can, and try to get higher without screaming, and hold that too. It’s called a roller coaster, and I think it works.
I’m in the Cathedral Choir at my church, which requires us to sing high notes, like, above the staff, and it always helps to stand up straight and look, not up, but towards the corner of the ceiling.
Another way to relax your lips and throat is to ‘fizz’ which is kind of like, putting your mouth on the back of your hand and blowing, so that it kind of ripples.. it tickles too
And to clear your throat it’s bad to ‘growl’ so swallow a couple of times and take a deep breath through your nose…
Can I have ‘Only Hope’ by Mandy Moore please?
I hope these tips help
welll. there is this thing we do before shows called 1, 1,2,1 1,2,3,2,1 and you go up to # 8 and i think it works really well with diction while doing a scale. the one i would like is “mandy moore, only hope” thanks :]

The warm ups that usually help me involve some sort of corresponding movement. Kee A, Kee Ah, Kee Oh Ho Ho Ho… Has a movement where you swing your arms back and forth to keep the A, Ah, and Oh higher.

Hello! Unfortunately, I lack any singing ability whatsoever, but I would think that drinking something warm, like a mug of tea, would help to literally warm up the vocal chords. I would like Rose’s Theme from Titanic, please, if that’s alright.
tea helps to losen up your throat and clear it so that you get a rich and clear tone in your voice. you get some warm tea and you put just lemon juice and honey in it. lemon juice dissolves anything in your throat and the honey coats your throat to soothe it. no sugar allowed though, it will only make it worse. the honey acts as a sweetener instead of adding a whole bunch of sugar like most people do………. RENT seasons of love….. thats the next one i need to learn THNX so much!!!
Lip exercises, not consuming too much dairy, and NOT singing in your throat are recommended.
Wanna send me RENT?
Using your diaphragm to sing.
Can I have Rent - Seasons of Love?
Hi sing with ur real voice dont try to sing the best or else you will end up singing through your nose!(and thats bad). oh and can i have teardrops on my guitar?
Hey,
my sister is a singer and she drinks hot tea before she sings
anyways Start of something new, high school musical =)
in choir, the siren thing really helps. imitating an ambulance and such will really open that throat-then you’ll feel ready to sing anything! and while singing, the hard notes should really unhinge your jaw so it won’t sound forced.
hee-i would like how does it feel please.
hey!! I’m badly needing the music sheet of “start of something new”.. i am not a singer but my boyfriend is a singer and a member of a choir..he always tells me not to drink anything cold before singing.. also he told me not to hold my breath while singing.. he also told me not to guess the pitch that i am about to sing.. i should put in my mind the pitch and how am i supposed to sing it..
Before singing, I always hold in my mouth a salted dry apricot. It’s really help for me.
Anyway, can i have the sheet of “Start of something new”?
Stay away from drugs, drinks, and smoke, whether its you or someone else who’s doing the smoking. Stay away from group singing and try not to yell or speak too loudly. Keep a hard sweet, like mint or something, to suck on. When you practice your singing, don’t push yourself too hard, always keep to your limits or you will strain your vocals. Loosen up before the performance, like Sharpay does in HSM, bark, growl, just make funny noises really - keep in mind not to tense your muscles around the throat region. And, most importantly, don’t sing too much, you’ll ruin yourself without anyone else’s help. Not exactly sure if any of this is up there, but I hope I helped. I would like Everytime, Britney Spears, if you would. (:
Oh, and your mailing list thing is full. It asked me to notify you.
I’ve been told to imagine that there is something holding your stomach down and your head up and pulling your voice vertically when you sing to get that full sound.
“Seasons of Love” - RENT please!
Wow… I’m trying to do this without copying anything that’s been said already.
Well, here’s a pretty crazy one- before going on to perform, I have a chocolate tootsie pop- just the pop, not the roll inside. It helps to lubricate my throat, and the icky aftertaste helps me keep the back of my mouth ‘open.’
Could I have Only Hope, please?
Thank you!
I didn’t take the time to read all of the other tips, but I within the first 25 or so, no one mentioned mine:
I always eat an apple before I’m expected to sing. The apple’s juice keeps my throat nice and loose and it’s easy to eat around the dressing room without getting costumes, etc. dirty. Also, as others mentioned, hot/warm tea with honey always soothes my throat.
Avoid chocolate, cheese and soda before you sing at all costs! You’ll regret it!
Could I please have Everytime by Britney Spears? Thanks!
Drink a strong cup of coffee with a tablespoon of sugar in it it really strengthens up the vocal chords.
Courld i have Breaking Free from High School Musical
Hey can I have the sheet music for :
The Rocket Summer- So Much Love
One thing you want to avoid is drinking milk. It completely messes up your vocal chords for a while. Sadly I don’t really have anything other than basic warm ups. Our choir director has us say “za a le (up) mine (last high note) then go down. I had a director who had us say “key” in a higher pitch, then go down.
I have a specific cd I made of songs to warm up my voice. I listen to it in the car and sing to it. If you do that, try to avoid the songs that really strain your voice.
Rent “Seasons of Love” Please!
I suggest that you always warm up and never drink coffee before your about to sing. And always keep your mouth open big because it will produce a better sound. Or to make a better sound you can use your imagination and that really helps because it make the tone clearer and stronger. You can use your imagination by putting your hands together and then opening them bigger and bigger but while your making them open more lol you have to use your voice to feel up the space it really works trust me. oh and always drink plenty of water.
can i please have “only hope” by mandy more please i would really appreciate it :))
do not drink coffee before you sing!!!!!
going higher in pitch like starting low and going higher, if you do it everyday, it will help you get a range which is very good. Also always warm up before you sing because sometimes when you don’t warm up and you have to hit high notes that you’re not used to hitting will make your voice crack or it could mess up your vocal chords
