Win Sheet Music For Life!
Jan 2nd, 2008 by Derrick Fung
Dear Musicians,
Welcome to the first installment of a user-submitted contest on TheMusicBlogger.com. As you can see, we have quite a few contests running concurrently, but this is the first contest which involves users to submit their video for thousands of users to see.
What is the Carly Comando Contest? This is a very simple contest. First, view the video of Carly Comando’s song “Everyday” by clicking here. It’s a very beautiful piece composed for a video depicting a guy taking pictures of himself “Everyday” for 6 years. The song can be described as a “magical” piece, yet not many people have the sheet music for it, which makes this contest so much more challenging. I want YOU to record yourself playing Carly Comando’s “Everyday” on video. Because the sheet music isn’t widely available, you’re going to have to either watch a tutorial on YouTube, or listen to the song and try to play it out by ear - it’s up to you. Please make sure you follow the rules below when recording:
- At the start of the video, please look into the camera and state that the video is for TheMusicBlogger’s Carly Comando Contest.
- Please ensure that the camera shows your face and hands, so we know it’s actually you playing the song.
- You don’t have to play the WHOLE song, but obviously when judged, voters will take into consideration that you actually learned the whole song.
- For the title of the video on YouTube, please put TheMusicBlogger.com Contest: <Insert Your Name>. Also, please tag the video “TheMusicBlogger.com Contest” as well.
It’s that simple. Record a video of you playing Carly Comando’s Everyday, and you could win!
How are the winners decided? Once we have at least 10 submissions for this contest (I’ll check by January 23rd), I’ll post the 10 videos on the main page of TheMusicBlogger, and will ensure that all 11500+ members of the Facebook Group and the thousands of users signed up on the mailing list are notified to VOTE. Voting will commence for 5 days, and the winner will be selected at the end of the 5th day. Voting will take place on the site, through a poll, similar to the one on the right navigation bar right now.
What do you win? Yes, the best part of the contest
The ultimate winner will take home the following:
- Carly Comando ”Everyday” Official Sheet Music (not that you’ll need it by that time anyway, right? ;))
- The fame and stardom gained from starring in a video shown to thousands of users on a daily basis.
- $50 in CASH, mailed to your home.
- $100+ Value: Free Sheet Music For a Year (Depending on your taste and interests, 1 piece of sheet music from www.sheetmusicplus.com will be sent to your address per month)
- More Sheet Music For Life (Access to an online sheet music database with hundreds of sheet music downloads available…this is where we get all OUR sheet music)
How do you enter? Simple. First, submit your video on YouTube, and make sure that you follow the guidelines above. Post a comment here with the link to YouTube, and i’ll add it as an entry. When we have enough entries, I will start embedding the videos on the site for everyone to see and vote.
If you have any questions, leave a comment as well! Good luck!

I have a question - if we’ve managed to track down a copy of the sheet music, are we allowed to use it in our entry or do we have to have it memorized?
Hi Chelsea,
Just because someone has the sheet music, might not mean they can play it better.
Anything is fair game
Good luck!
Hahahhaah. That’s gonna be interesting!
Good luck to those entering!
But i was wondering, would there be more contests like this? For those who don’t play the piano / a certain type of instrument?
I’m quite bummed I can’t join!
And it sounds like a wonderful song!

Hey April,
Yes, from the poll I put on the page (on the right nav), it seems like MANY people play the violin, viola or cello. The next contest will be for you
Heya (:
That’s BRILLIANT!
Thank you ever so much

Hi! New to the site!
So… when we’re finished uploading the video to youtube we have to post it in here? Where do we post the comment and the link?
Hi Christina,
Just post the link in here and I’ll post the video! Post the link in the comment.
Hey, is the contest still going on? I can finally play the song (with the help of a few tutorial vids and by ear). I want to show everyone how I play Everyday.
