The Project Studio Series
Jun 30th, 2007 by Derrick Fung
When I look at musicians, I classify them into two main groups. There are those who solely perform and those who take it up a notch and begin to record their music. I was once in the first classification. Music performance, in many aspects, can be seen as an art - essentially, what you hear is what you get. However, I reached a point when the satisfaction gained from performance was no longer enough to keep me going.
Is performance enough to keep your passion going? Do you need a new ’spark’ in your music hobby? For many, the answer to the second question is no, which leads into the point I’m trying to get across.
Home Recording is a hobby which I recently embraced. It encapsulates the reason why I’m always so eager to practice piano or guitar. Not only is it an art, but it’s an industry which is constantly being changed by improving technology and music equipment. However, building your own home studio isn’t easy. Through hard-work and determination, I was able to start my own home studio. Through it’s currently still considered amateur, I plan on adding more to my project once I gain more experience.
The Project Studio Series will take a multi-faceted approach in explaining to you the step-by-step process of starting your own home studio. With the advent of affordable analog and digital audio recording systems, it’s safe to say that creating a studio for private use is easier than ever. I will be taking readers through the stages of starting up your own studio and also display pictures of my current home studio for referencing purposes. Stay tuned for this 5 part series coming your way!
For now, take a look at the video below of pictures of sample project studios. Some are more ‘hard core’ than others, but don’t be shocked - each one is built for difference purposes, with different budgets. This video was found at HomeTracked.com.
Don’t Forget about the current contest which is running - I’m giving away free sheet music to readers. Check it out here.
