3) Violin is a master instrument because it is the most precise and yet unrestricted instrument. A bow can be used for sustaining notes on end, but more importantly, to control precisely how long a note shall be played. Complete Volume dynamics are at the control of the player via bow pressure. The mutiple types of Vibrato that can be done also open up more options for articulation than most other instruments. Being fretless allows for players to play “quarter-tones” found in non-western music, thus expanding its range of notes beyond instruments with a predetermined note (keys, frets, etc). Chords and “double stops” (two notes at once) may be played using a bow, giving it chordal qualities when played by itself. Violin may also be played alongside any sort of combination of other instruments. Its smaller size allows for faster rythyms and “licks” that are impossible on other instruments that need to be blown, or would take Gods to play on anything plucked, keyed, or of a larger scale length. As an intended soloist instrument, its range is unmatched by others: in excess of 4-5 octaves. (John Coltrane is worshipped for hitting a full 3 octaves on the Tenor Sax.)
Violin is the BEST instrument because we almost always have the melody. We can play the highest note of any stringed instrument. The Violin sounds cool with any accompaniment.

3) Violins are freakin cool because, yes they have the melody most of the time, its ability to convey all kinds of different emotions through subtleties such as what part of the bow you’re using, position from the bridge, weight on the bow, intensity of vibrato, etc., and one looks amazing when playing it, especially when performing a difficult piece. In an orchestra, the violins are the most fun to watch since they’re the most visually active and you can actually see the different fingerings and bowings.

3) The violin is the best instrument because it has such a wide variety of sounds- from rich and sonorous to short and scratchy- that can be used to play all styles of music. It is such a versatile instrument not only in sound style, but also physically, due to its small size which makes it easy to bring with you everywhere and making it a superb choice for musicians who constantly travel. Also, the beauty of the violin is such that many pieces are written with the violin as the solo instrument, so clearly, the violin is recognized by many composers as the best intrument for portraying the melody of their pieces.
The violin is the best instrument because it’s so expressive, people say that it’s the closest instrument to the human voice. Also, it sounds good with any other instrument/accompaniment and it almost always has the melody. It is the string instrument that has the highest range. There are many different ways that you can play the violin. For example, you can play classical music, fiddle music, and there is the electric violin. You can also play with a bow or pizzicato. The violin is clearly the best!
The violin is the best instument out there because it is really hard for it to not sound so beautiful. While being able to play high note, it is also able to play the pieces that require a low feeling. It is never has a muffled sound, and is able to bring the music through the room rather than aiming it at someone. It can range from playfull pizz. to an upbeat fiddle, to beautiful doublestops and exciting speed. Most of all, the violin is the best BECAUSE IT IS!!!!!!!!!!!!

3) Violin is simply the best instrument because of the amazing range of sound it can produce. you hit a low c and it trembles your core, you reach for a harmonic up on the e string and it rattles your ears. it is full of life, passion, and melody. It also brings out the best musicians. The violin can only do so much without a great player behind it. Once you pick one up and feel its strength pure passion flows out. The violin and its player are the best combination in the world.
The Violin is not only a beautiful instrument but is a family pastime for me. My grandpa played the violin and I was never able to meet him. He died at an early age but quickly became a master of the violin at his time. My Great Uncle as well plays the violin. When i hear him play i can only hope that one day i will be able to play as beautifully as he. I love the violin because it has more than just a musical value to me. The Violin is different than all other instruments. It has a sweet tune that is easy to get caught up into. I find that when i play I am intertwined in another world, in the music, perhaps a comfort zone where everything is okay. This instrument i have played for almost ten years and i learn to love it more and more each time I play it. I can only hope that more people all over the world enjoy my passion, for the violin so dear deserves to be passed on and enjoyed.

3. One reason why the violin is the best instrument is because its range far surpasses its size. Whether playing classical standards, bluegrass, or experimenting with rock or hip-hop rhythms, the violin is extremely evocative and flexible. The sound of a well-played violin, in any style, is inspiring and still takes me by surprise because of how big the sound of the instrument, despite its small size. Its lasting power–the fact that it’s still an incredibly popular, inspirational instrument even through the years–is further testament to its success in conveying its message in music.
The violin is the best instrument because it is versatile. It’s a perfect size (relative to other stringed instruments that are more cumbersome to travel with), and it also has the ability to execute fabulous classical pieces as well as improvised folk songs, and accommodate self-expression using a wide variety of ranges and tonalities.

3) The violin is not only beautiful in structure, but also beautiful in sound. The strings and bow give it a variety of sounds and music that may be produced from a single stroke of legato, to a set of notes in sticatto. The violin may play the lovely melody, or even make the melody sound so much more beautiful with played harmony. It can give the quick sensation of love, and even the quickest tune of great sadness, all the way to the feeling of adrenaline. Whether the musician wants to play a classical piece or decides to go into modern areas, the violin without a doubt can fulfill
all of his/her musical desires with dramatization and passion.
What the violin means to me i’ve said in a two page essay. The violin has gotten me into college, shaped my work ethic, gotten me involved and so much more. So if you could please take the time to read it, i’m sure you’ll enjoy it and you’ll understand why the violin is such an amzing intrustment.
The Birth of Music
The piano was the bane of my existence. My dad wanted me to become a skilled player. He would always argue that, “if you learned to play the piano it could provide extra money for you.”
“I realize that dad, but if I’m not passionate about it, why should I waste my time? I could be learning another instrument and become just as good if I’m passionate,” I reasoned.
“Isaac, if you love the piano so much why don’t you learn to play?” my mom questioned.
“Oh it’s too late for me,” he answered.
“Well stop trying to live vicariously through Bryant!” she demanded.
This was a common argument in my house whenever I brought up the idea of playing the violin instead of the piano. My dad is very head strong, and only could see me playing the “ivories.” Defenselessly, I spent two years playing the piano. The moment I came into the studio my instructor could feel loath seeping out of me like a water-logged sponge. One day the instructor asked me, “Why do you hate the piano?”
“I don’t hate the piano, it’s just that I’d rather be playing something else,” I replied.
“What would you rather play?” he inquired.
“The violin,” I said with a sigh. I told him about the issues I had with my dad and the piano. When I abandoned the piano, I attained a job to pay for violin lessons and found a teacher in my local area. I was finally able to pursue my passion.
Even though the violin has been in my life for ten years, only three of those years were spent playing. I always wondered how good I would have been, if I had continued to play the violin when I was younger. Would I be a skilled player, more so than my classmates, or would I be average? My violin teacher, Emily, tells me not to worry about those absent years. What is important she reminds me is that I found the violin again. My lack of experience compared to others makes me stronger, forcing me to practice consistently, giving me a better work ethic. I paid for my own lessons and materials, and stayed up late nights after finishing homework just to play.
The violin has shown me that I can do whatever I set out to accomplish. During my last year of high school I joined the school orchestra and chamber orchestra, an after school club. Things started out a little rough but I did not stop trying and I eventually succeeded. I know that when I want to attain something, I have to put in the time and effort to deserve it.

3. Yeah…theres a lot to be said about the violin, much of which has been already mentioned previously. But there are 2 particulars that I’d like to bring up, one of which is significantly more serious (though not necessarily more important). Firstly, the physical properties of the instrument. It’s size is not too big that it is uncomfortable under the neck, and it’s not a burden to carry like the larger stringed instruments. Yet it can produce an incredible range of notes on its fingerboard and due to its size, amazingly complex chords can be executed. Its mastery requires great precison, again due to its shape and size. My second point that I’d like to make is short, but to the point. And this is in no way a derogatory comment. Violins are awesome because we not only do not have to put up with viola jokes, we get to make them.
I honestly can’t imagine my life without the violin. The violin , in my opinion is the best instrument a musician can play. With each gentle bowstroke a beautiful sweet sound is produced. I love how even a simple melody can contain so much emotion and unlike other instruments, it can produce a depth of sound quality that stimulates the senses. A single note can contain so many different emotions, such as anger, love, sadness and the tone is the most beautiful of all instruments.
I have learned that the violin is the best instument out there for me through obstacles I’ve faced. I started playing the violin in the 4th grade and kept playing up to the 8th where I quit. During the time away from the violin i tried taking up piano but I soon realized my fingers couldn’t move around on the large keys. Then during the beginning of sophmore year I realized what a fool I had been a took up the violin again. I have been working hard to make up lost time since, dedicating long hours of practice to learn new techniques and widen my musical range. I love playing the violin and I know I won’t quit it again. Those 2-3 year without it really had an impact. I believe that the violin along with a couple other instuments, can truly move the soul, whether its alone, or accompanied. The sounds produced by the violin can be manipulated in so many different ways giving each peice of music its own personality. All instuments are beautiful, but none are as sophisticated or as emotional as the violin.
I don’t play the violin, but it’s the best instrument out there because of the sheer joy I get from listening to my little sister pluck and bow her heart out– she plays, I listen, and there’s no finer music made anywhere else.

3. The violin is the most versatile string instrument. Sounding like any voice, it can sing brightly or moan sadly. Several different techniques with the bow and instrument combine in a cacophony of sound and luscious beauty. Bounce the bow, and visualize a child skipping. Saw away at a string, and a heavy man walks. Violins embrace tone and mood, filling any musical need in one portable, wooden instrument. Violins can be played like percussion instruments by tapping the wood; they can also be plucked like a guitar while one places them in a rest position. Drums cannot sing like violins, nor can a guitarist bow a guitar, creating many moods a musician swoons for, lives for, maybe even dies for. Violins fulfill every musical need, which is why, when deciding what instrument a person would like to play, they often choose violin. It calls to them, beckoning a touch of the fingerboard, a light holding of the bow, and rosin lightly perfuming the air when bowhair and string touch. If one can resist it, just touching the wood, one must not truly hear the call of such a unique, ancient, and important instrument.

3. Every single time I open my violin case and hit that first note, I’m amazed and in love all over again. The violin is the best instrument, hands down, that I have ever encountered. I’ve played and been in close contact with dozens of instruments, and still I am enchanted by the violin after 12 years of study. Each and every violin has its own personality and its brought out differently by each person. The beauty of the violin is marked by its versatility and uniqueness. This versatility is particularly noted in the fact that the violin can produce a wide range of tones. Each tone can then be ornamented with vibrato and glissandos from the left hand, and different bowing techniques with the right hand. The tones can be changed with the player’s mood and expression. My notes sound different to me when I’m sad opposed to when I’m happy. There is no doubt in my mind that the violin is the best instrument ever invented.
The violin is the only beautiful instrument that i know which is able to produce unique sweet sound. The violin whether played alone or with other instruments, it is able to produce lively sounds which entertain any audience in a most outstanding manner. Whenever i play my violin it puts me in a happy mood and takes me away from the world i am in by placing me in a little bubble of my own. The tones produced as i play it are mesmerizing. There is a lot you can do with a violin in order to produce the music, and all this from four strings and a bow. The violin is the most unique and best music producer i have ever played.
The violin is a unique instrument because of its ability to produce a wide variety of tones. You can use legato, spiccato, false harmonics, double-stops, pluck the strings, or produce a bright sound or a dark sound. It is also the instrument most similar to a human voice.
Violin is simply LOUD. Outrageously loud. Even if you’re playing pianissimo, you’re always heard above other instruments. Also there’s a certain attitude, a swag if you will, that comes with playing the violin. There’s pretty much no limit to how high you can play and the things you can imitate (trains, animals, the wind).

3) Simply put, the violin is an instrument that allows the musician to express his/her emotions in a very passionate way. I find other instruments do not quite have the same feeling as the violin.
The violin is the greatest instrument for several reasons. First of all, it has become prevlant in most, if not all, genres of music. The most obvious home for the violin would be in classical music, and in fiddle music. However, the violin has found a place in all kinds of popular music, including rock (see Arcade Fire) as well as pop/punk (see Yellowcard). Violins can play on their own, with a piano accompaniment, with other violins, with other string instruments in a chamber group, or with a full orchestra. Clearly, the violin is a very versatile instrument. The violin has the capacity to play music with a wide range of styles and dynamics. It has a range of pitch spanning several octaves. The violin also employs several techniques to further accentuate the style of music being played: vibrato, pizzicato, harmonics, double stops, etc. And the biggest reason why the violin is the greatest instrument? Because I have studied and practiced it for over a decade and have accomplished so much, yet have so much still to learn.

ohh i also forgot to mention… Because when The Devil Came Down To Georgia, and he was looking for a soul to steal, he bargained with none other than a Golden Violin =P
I love the elegant and classic look of the violin. The two f-holes allow it to make hauntingly beautiful sounds no other instruments can make. Plus, when I put it in my case and carry it around, I look like a mobster in my black coat.

I may name hundreds of reasons why violin is such a great instrument, but more than half these reasons may also be applied to other stringed instrument such as the viola, cello or bass. These are just a select few reasons:
-Violinists almost ALWAYS gets to be the concertmaster
-Most elegant stringed instrument considering the small size
-Most of the greatest stringed players are consisted of violin players (itzhak Perlman, Heifetz, Paganini, Isaac Stern….)
-Cello players don’t get to get violin hickeys..do they!
-Gets to stand while playing
-There are more violins in an orchestra (1st violin AND 2nd violin)
-Can reach the highest pitch out of all stringed instruments
-Violins gains most of the melodies
As much as i hate practicing, i love playing the violin even more! These are just a few of the reasons why the violin is such a great instrument!

3) The violin is the best instrument because it is a channel for emotion - it allows release of whatever is going through your mind and it the most expressive of anything. I find that it does not allow you to lie - even if you can hide from yourself what you are truly feeling, it will be expressed in your playing - in the sounds and notes and tones and vibrato. Further, it is such a calming tool. It tempers the world and allows something that one can get entirely lost in so that nothing else in the universe matters besides the music that is being produced.

makes a good point about there begin so many famous violinst, thought she forgot one by accident i’m Joshua Bell one of the few violinst in the world to own a almost 300 year old Stradivarius, the legendary stolen one to be exact.
the violin is the best instrument due to its ability to produce so many different types of sounds, play in almost any types of music, its variety in tone, and its incredible range. plus, we get to stand while playing, get to be concertmaster in an orchestra, and have sweet hickeys to show off. (also; i used to wish i played cello…until i had to help one of my friends with a broken arm carry it up three flights of stairs.)

It is wonderfully portable and easy to travel with. The range is large and very pleasing to the ear. It is easily one of the most expressive instruments for there is a huge variety of styles and ways of playing in classical music alone (and then there’s fiddling….). It is so easy to get sucked into the music when listening to or playing the violin.
i love the violin because it really makes the violinist aware of staying in tune, in addition to tone, rhythm, and other factors all musicians must consider. the violin is also awesome because the way the notes are physically located also teaches the player a lot about the relationships between notes. this knowledge is great because it makes it so much easier to figure out, with knowledge of intervals, any song you hear on the violin.

3. As illustrated in the 2003 Chinese film “Together,” the violin has the ability to illustrate passion and feeling to a degree that cannot be emulated by any instrument that isn’t a chordophone. Compared to other chordophones, the violin can reach tremendously high pitches, allowing the musician a great deal of dexterity with his/her music.

3.Violin sounds great. There very little age limit. One can play multiple notes which is not as convenient in many wind instruments. It is good for ear training. It is one of the most commonly played musical instrument. Many different tones and types of sound can be produced by the shape, length, location of the bow stroke. It is very often the melody, solo, or counter melody. It is light and small and therefore convenient to carry around. there are so many levels that even once u pass ARCT there are so many music that are challenging and hard to master.
Even if u don’t like violin it looks nice as a decorative piece.

3. The violin is the best because it’s the most like the human voice. It brings emotion out from people with vibrato, chords, and the way the violin can go between notes is seamless. It also has a beautiful sound.

3. I think that the violin is an awesome instrument because it has the ability to make the sweetest and highest sound and can make amazing sounds, like vibrato and pizz, something the piano cannot do. In a orchestra, the violin also gets the most respect and recognition from others.
Violin, to me, is the best because altho i can play the bass and the cello, the violin is the most versitile. There is a higher range on the violin, you can play scales useing one bow (try that on a bass!)
The violin get plenty of solos, and for the most part, has the melody 85-90% of the time. But the violin does know how to share, and shares melody with the other instruments too
I read the above 44 comments. I share every view.As a matter of fact, it is the one thing in this rather dark world that I cannot think of anything bad to say .
I started playing violin at 60 years old and would like to play solo in front of a symphony orchastra before I die. I live at an orphanage in Mexico where I help encourage the children to play also. We love the violin here.
The violin is the world’s BEST INSTRUMENT, because the fact that it takes talent to be a good violin player. I started playing the violin at the age of 5, and still is playing it. ROCK ON VIOLINS!
I am not one to play favourites, but I’ll play along here. (My preference is the Movie book…I’m rehearsing for Broadway!) I have played the violin since the age of 4, but am no virtuoso. In fact, I have returned to playing after a hiatus of many years. My violin, which is not valued at very much but has a beautiful tone, now travels with me most places I go. It has a portable body and a voice that energizes me and reaches beyond the outskirts of my conscience and my whole being. On some days, it is mere wood and metal, a resonant box crafted by some forgotten, skilled soul across the ocean. On other days, it is a reminder of my grandfather’s cheer when he played in clubs in central Europe, or his solace when he became ill. I strum it, drum it, pluck it, draw my bow across its strings in a search to understand myself and the world around me. It has been the intermediary between myself and a host of talented musicians or admiring, lovely fans. It is a vehicle of communication where words do not exist or just get in the way. I’ll always play.
Rumi once wrote:
‘Today, like every other day, we wake up empty and frightened.
Don’t open the door to the study and begin reading.
Take down a musical instrument.
Let the beauty we love be what we do.
There are hundreds of ways to kneel and kiss the ground.’

3: The violin is the best instrument ever because of the following, but not in order of importance:
1) It has one of the best instruments to play in a symphony, no matter the time period
2) We out number all in symphonies
3) only we get to be called concertmaster
4) We have one of the best solos around
5) Hands down one of the most romantic instruments to be played
6) very portable
7) looks amazing, but still has individuality
9) very versatile, we can play completely different types of music without altering the instrument (i.e classical to country to rock)
10) very sophisticated and elegant
Violin is the best instrument because it allows to to express emotions other instruments can’t. For example, you can try to produce sadness with a piano, but it’s just not the same as on a violin. A piano is only sad-a violin can be depressing, blue, cheerless. A violin can also produce sounds of great joy. Most of all, it can bring a listener to tears; not many other instruments can do that.

3. As a violinist ever since I was 7, I can’t help but say that the violin is the best instrument out there. True, it is the largest section in any orchestra with the melody the majority of the time and the concertmaster is always a violinist, but it was the violin’s sound that caught my attention as a little girl and the sole reason I insisted on learning how to play it. The violin, the smallest stringed instrument out of the orchestra, is also the most portable. It is a very elegant and sophisticated instrument, from its curved neck to its sturdy chin rest. It is an individual’s instrument, recognized by composers with many solo parts as well as the melody within an orchestral composition. However, the true beauty of the instrument lies within its expressive “voice”. It’s wide range and variety of sounds makes it one of the most versatile instruments, allowing one to play different styles of music ranging from classical to country to rock without altering the instrument. It is due to the versatility of the violin from a rich, sonorous tone to a short, scratchy fiddle song, that made me fall in love with this instrument and proclaim the violin the best instrument out there.
My high school conductor once told me, “The violin has always been recognized as one of the best instruments out there. In the olden days, all musicians started off in the 1st violin section. If one wasn’t good enough, you got demoted to 2nd violin. If you still weren’t good enough, then the viola section. After that, the cello section and finally, the bass section. If you needed to demoted even further, it was then the percussion section. If you still weren’t good enough, they took away from one of your drum sticks and put you as the conductor.”
I can’t deny that there is some bias when I say that the violin is the best instrument (because I play it), but in an otherwise objective view, the violin is one of the most versatile instruments. Not only can it make the sound of a string instrument, but you can tap on the wooden body itself like Giles Young, creating a completely different atmosphere. You can manipulate both the left and right sides of the instrument, regarding the hands that are playing. With the left, you determine the notes that are played, single or double stops. With the right, you can manipulate how notes are played. You can play with the hair on the string, or the wood of the bow there. You can do staccatos, legato, play on the fingerboard or near the bridge, the possibilities are nearly endless.
I’d like to put out there that the violin is in the middle of a beautiful range of sounds that aren’t too high or low.
For practicality’s sake, I’ll also put down that for a string instrument, the violin is much easier to carry than let’s say, the cello. When you’re going to school or traveling to any other place, you don’t want to “look like a wounded gazelle on the Serengeti” (ref to Rob Paravonian’s performance regarding kids with cellos http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JdxkVQy7QLM)

3. Violins are loud enough to be heard throughout an auditorium, small enough to be hidden under a large trenchcoat, and yet large enough to burn for a long time.
violin is the best instrument because it sounds so beautiful when played right… also its very portable which is another plus
Email : teaddy_bear34@hotmail.com
I play more than one instrument and even though I love them all… Number 1 is the BEAUTIFUL VIOLIN simply because when I hear the sound of the violin it stabs emotions right through my heart. It is the violins sound that is as beautiul as a soul. The emotions u feel with the violin range from happiness to utter sadness rushes through your whole body. When the violin plays it is as if it’s soul is singing.
The violin? It basically rules the musical world. Yes, there are many, many beautiful instruments out there, including the piano, but the violin out-soars them all. She flies high above and with the right player, she’s the master of the fingerboard. When all else fails, I pick my violin up, and the sweet melody I can sometimes coax out of her brings out the light in me, cheering me up, and lifting my soul. Listening to others play, as I in my ten years of playing the violin never can, brings me hope. For as long as music like that can be created, world peace can’t be so unreachable as it sometimes seems.
I have played the violin since I was 7, and even though I don’t always practice like I should, I have never once regretted begging my mom since I was 4 to let me play. An instrument like the violin, just screams, “I’M THE BEST!!”
The violin is the best instrument to both play and listen to. It is one of the most difficult instruments to learn, and it takes many years of practicing to even begin to master the art of violin playing. The violin provides the top tier in an orchestra, with a range that reaches the highest notes for any orchestral instrument. The sound produced by a violin is beautiful and song like. It is clear when the violin is playing because of the tone and range of notes that are possible. Playing the violin takes patience and dedication, and once you become a violin player, you are proud to hold up the violin and play a melody because you know that the violin is the best!

3. Violin’s the best because we always are on top of things and have the prettiest parts. It takes a lot more skill to learn than piano or woodwinds, and we’re usually the most hard-core about playing. We’re also the most versatile because we span from medieval music to modern classical as well as fiddle. We’re just amazing!

3. One instrument, four strings, yet it can produce a diverse range of tones. In fact, it produces the highest notes of the orchestra. Being an orchestra member for over eight years, I have only loved playing the violin even more.
The violin takes up two large sections in an orchestra– first violin and second violin, while the other two string instruments viola and cello only take up one.
The violin is the best instrument out there because it is an instrument that can go both ways of either being “elegant” or “obnoxious.” Many people do not like the violin because it mostly pertains to classical music. However, they are proven wrong when jazz is made possible to play on violin, even hip-hop. The violin has also been modified so that it can be an electric instrument–a breakthrough in music. This makes the violin possible for rock, as well! Either way, the violin can be played on many different genres, from classical to hip-hop, and gains more respect through this.
The violin is the superior to all because of all the music that can be played on it. It can go up to the highest note in an orchestra of strings, has a unique sound, and one of the most easist to play. People have heard of the violin a whole lot more than the cello or viola. Violins mostly have the melody in musics and people prefer to listen to it the most! Violin rocks!!
I’d prefer reading in my native language, because my knowledge of your languange is no so well. But it was interesting! Look for some my links:

Green Bay,
To me, my violin is like my child. I take care of it like it was a real person. When I play my violin, it feels like i can do anything. While I’m playing, it feels as if all my troubles were washed away and that I’m floating on a cloud in the sky. I want someone to try this: while playing your violin, think about what makes you happy and what makes you sad. Then push all that away and relax. Once you do that focus on what you think makes you feel important or special. To me, that helps because I’m usually stressed out when it’s time for my orchestra class. So i relax and play at the same time. I feel at peace when I play violin.
Violins seem to have their own personalities - the relationship between violin and violinist is one of the greatest things about playing. There’s just something about that varnished, polished wood that makes me feel very at home. I don’t think it’s the best because of the respect or status it gets in orchestras, or for how small it is (really?), but just the simple beauty of the instrument. It is unique, elegant, wildly emotional, sweet, and raw.
Plus, how else could you play songs about rosin-eating zombies from outer space?
